Holiday Give-a-way Day 1

It’s day one of the Holiday Give-a-way!

Today’s it’s all about the tree! We started a tradition last year of cutting down our own Christmas Tree. All I could think was, “Why haven’t we always done this??!” No lugging that giant box out of the basement, piling the branches in sections according to color code, getting scratches all over your arms and hands from trying to put it together, and sneezing until you almost die. (Yes, we were old school and did not have a tree that was pre-lit and pull-up!) Walking around in the woods with your family looking for the perfect tree, sawing it down and bringing it home was easy compared to that! I love this new tradition and I know it is something we will continue for years to come! It’s great family time, and just so much fun!

Here is a picture of my little lumberjacks pulling our tree back to the car…aren’t they sweet??

I want to know about your tree? Artificial or Real? Do you cut it yourself, or go to a lot? Are you still old school with the put together artificial or do you have the pre-lit?

Comment below for a chance to win today’s give-a-way! A $25 JGP Giftcard!

  1. Ours is artificial. I am horrible allergic to pine, and every year as a child, would end up in the hospital around thanksgiving. Finally, an allergy test showed I was literally allergic to christmas. I adore live trees, through windows only I’m afraid. We have all pearl decor, the lights are even pearl. Everyone has their own ornament to express themselves as well.

    • Felecia, your tree sounds beautiful! Stay away from those live pines!! :)
Thanks for your comment! Be sure to check back daily and play again!

  2. Do you need a permit to go to a forrest and cut down a tree? LOL Weird ? but the first thing I thought!

I really enjoyed picking out a live tree and bringing it home when I was a kid also, but we haven’t done it for many many years. Our poor little tree now looks like it’s starving. It’s pushed in a corner of our kitchen (so Carson stays away from it) and completely bare except for lights…and that’s a whole other story in itself. Clint and I (Nevaeh cheered us on) strung the lights only to realize the plug was on the top, so we had to take them off and do them over again. When we finally plugged them in we realized they were halloween lights…orange and purple. By that time we were done with all of this we decided they would work bc we didn’t want to do it all over again, for a third time! lol I’ve been saying all week that I was going to go get string to hang my oranamets (so that in case Carson does get to the tree, there are no hooks) and that hasn’t happened yet either. So as of right now we have a anorexic tree void of all Christmas decorations except for halloween lights. Tis the Season! LoL

  3. True story. Up until last year, I was actually still putting up the same artificial tree that my parent’s had when I was a kid…layer by layer by layer. Last year, my sister gave me her old tree, which is also a layer tree, but at least it still has some needles left on it. The 1970′s tree was looking a little sad. Why all these loaner trees? Because I am too cheap to spend $100-$200 on something that you only use for 1 month every year. Sad, but yes, true.

    • I can totally relate to the hand me down tree! That’s what we have always had until we started buying real trees. Whatever works! :)

  4. Our family still puts up the sectioned artificial kind of tree. We still use it because I want my children to know about family traditions that have gone on for generations and because those family members have all gone to heavan, I continue to do things from the past, as a way to share fond memories with my children. We even string popcorn and cranberries on string because I want them to know that not all things need to be bought but can be made from the heart and are even more special. We even have a piece of homemade tinsil on the tree from 1912..it belonged to my great aunt Eighty :) Thank you for asking for our comment.

    • Elizabeth, thanks for your comment! Congrats on the win! I look forward to meeting you!!

  5. Nick and I got an artificial pre-lit tree our first Christmas together. we hiked all the way to the store searched through the wild rows of crazy shoppers and found our perfect little tree. Growing up overseas I had never seen a pre-lit tree! so when I realized you could decorate without having to deal with lights I knew it was the tree for me ;)
Once our baby is here though I do believe we will start some new traditions once the kids get older. I really love how your family makes a day of it. I would put up with lights again to be able to have a good family day.

    • Thanks Leah! I complain about the decorating process, but when it’s said and done it is fun! :)
